It all started with a dog named Josie.

One afternoon, Maddie let Josie wander a little too freely into a nearby yard—one that happened to belong to David. At first, he wasn’t exactly thrilled… but that quickly changed. The moment he opened the door and saw Maddie, any frustration disappeared, replaced with a smile and a simple hello.

A few months later, fate stepped in again. David spotted Maddie walking Josie around the neighborhood and mentioned he was hosting a bonfire and bourbon night with some neighbors. He casually invited her to join—and to his delight, she said yes. The invitation may have sounded laid-back, but David immediately texted everyone to make sure the bonfire was officially happening that night.

From the moment Maddie arrived, the two talked for hours—about traveling, cooking, the Eastern Shore, Guster, and just about everything else. It felt easy, natural, and like something special was beginning.
